Ethical Fashion Profile: Beth and Ellie of Dress Well Do Good

Hello and welcome back to my Ethical Fashion Profile Series! Today, I’m super excited to have Ellie and Beth from Dress Well, Do Good getting involved and answering a few questions. Dress Well, Do Good is one of my favourite ethical fashion blogs – I absolutely love that it’s written by a pair of friends, and as you’ll be able to see from the responses below, the commitment, compassion and creativity which goes in to the blog is awesome. So without further ado, lets get going!

Ethical Fashion Profile: Sarah of Plum and Plaid

Hello again! It’s been a little bit quiet over here on the blog for the past few weeks – as I’ve mentioned before, being a final year student, holding down a job, some vague semblance of a social life AND a blog doesn’t always come that easy. Sometimes this little corner of the internet has to take a hit to allow for me to get down to some serious essay writing! I doubt that this will be the last lull in posting I have this year, but if everything goes swimmingly then I should be fully graduated and available to blog regularly again sometime in mid July. Till then, I hope you’ll stick with with me through my sporadic posting schedule!

Today, I’m super excited to share with you the first installment of a new feature – Tomorrow Living’s Ethical Fashion Profiles! I want to showcase some of my favourite ethical fashion bloggers, instagrammers and fashionistas from all walks of life to demonstrate the sheer variety that is out there. Conscious, green fashion is as diverse as the people that choose to wear it – so if you need some inspiration, then keep scrolling.

Autumn in Review

You might remember that a few months back, I posted about how I plan on being a slightly greener student. It’s now come to the end of my first term back at uni, so I thought I’d give you guys an honest look back at how the last few months went with this in mind. Heads up – it didn’t go too well. However, part of the reason why I have a blog is to keep myself on track and accountable – so if you’re interested in how badly I failed my first attempt at green student living, read on!

The Eco Tshirt Edit

It’s been a little while since I did a sustainable fashion post – which is sad, really, as I absolutely love reading fashion blogs. At the moment, I’m pretty enamored by Paloma in Disguise – charity-shop pieces styled to perfection with some great photography to boot. Anyway, to change subject entirely, another thing I’m enamored with at the moment (besides  Hannah’s wonderful blog) is the humble t-shirt. It’s one thing ethical fashion companies of all styles seem to do particularly well, and in recent weeks I’ve been picking up on some rather brilliant and beautiful designs from all corners of the internet.

Eco instas to get you inspired #1

This is a post I’ve been meaning to get up for quite a while; the instagram accounts which give me inspiration (both on where to shop and how to style things!). This edition of Aimee’s favourite instagram accounts is going to focus on my favourite (slow) fashionistas, but I hope to do a similar thing for my favourite green beauty account and brand accounts! So, if Instagram is your social media weapon of choice, do have a gander at the five beautiful ladies I’ve rounded up below. I am constantly looking for more people to brighten up my feed and fuel my growing green obsession – if you can think of someone who I should be following, let me know!

TRAID: The charity shop of your dreams?

Since delving in to the world of sustainable fashion, I’ve come across a whole heap of pretty cool charities. However, since reading about them a few weeks back, I decided it would be well worth my time to check out TRAID ( Textile Recycling for Aid and Development). With shops all over London from Peckham to Shephard’s Bush (and everywhere in between!) TRAID provides a pretty neat alternative to throwing away old clothes. And, seeing as it’s second hand September, now feels like a pretty great time to be posting about them!

Halfway through the Sustainable Fashion Challenge

A couple of weeks ago I finished working at the Summer Camp that I was using as my nice little summer job. Since finishing, I’ve really been able to invest some time and energy in to my blog, which I have absolutely loved being able to do! Because I had this heap of extra time, I decided to sign up to the amazing Tortoise and Lady Grey ’20 Day Sustainable Fashion Challenge’ . Yesterday marked the half way point of the challenge, so here’s a little update for you all on how it’s been.

So, what exactly is the Sustainable Fashion Challenge? It seems to me to be part challenge and part learning experience, which is right up my street! It’s an opportunity to evaluate your wardrobe, a process which you’re guided through by the lovely Summer Edwards of Tortoise and Lady Grey (an awesome, super informative blog for those of you who are yet to come across it!) Although it is a gentle introduction to building an ethical wardrobe, it comes with just the right dose of ‘reality check’, and forces you to do a serious rethink of how your wardrobe aligns to your morals.

I was particularly interested to learn about which fabrics are better for the environment – as a newbie to this world, I had absolutely no idea, and it’s something I’d be wanting to get to grips with for a while now. Knowing this helps me feel empowered as a consumer, and able to make better, greener choices when I’m out and about.

So, has it made a difference? There’s an awful lot of information to take in, and definitely not something you can absorb all in one go. However, I’ve been writing down tips from every session, which I hope will come in handy later on. However, since starting the challenge, I have been getting a bit mendy mendy rather than spendy spendy, which certainly makes a change for a hardened shopper like me! One of the sessions explores all the basics of how to mend you clothes – something pretty simple but that my generation isn’t great at. My all time favourite dress, a floaty little thing from Billabong, had a hole in the sleeve, which I’ve now (badly) patched up.

It’s not much, but it’s a start! If this has interested you, be sure to Check back in 10 days time for the review of the whole program, and definitely sign up to the challenge for yourself.  It’s completely free and can be found on the Tortoise and Lady Grey, linked above.
